About Karen
I was born and raised in London, England, and emigrated with my husband to Australia in 1993. We started out in the Eastern States and moved back and forth across the Nullarbor for my husband’s employment before eventually settling in Perth. I qualified as a counsellor and established a small practice at home, and Andrew and I began raising our three young children: Tom, Stephanie and Samuel (known as Saz).
My life was turned upside down after I was diagnosed with oral cancer in 2004. With limited verbal communication, I began to write, and from this cathartic process evolved my book Two years to ‘normal’: A journey with cancer.
I feel fortunate that the Cancer Council has given its support for my story and it is a privilege to have its logo on my book. As a counsellor by profession, I believe in the counselling process and, given this, every book purchased will support the Cancer Council Helpline. The Cancer Council Helpline is a free telephone counselling service staffed by volunteers and provides a friendly voice and listening ear to those travelling their own cancer journey.
It is now my privilege to have you read my story and I take this opportunity to wish you good health; may much joy surround you always.
